Te Tuhi

Te Tuhi

Class five was getting ready to go on to a trip. We were going to Te Tuhi to learn about pacific stories. We left  school like about 9:30 in the morning . Once we were at Te Tuhi we lined up in front of the building  getting ready to go in. Once we were inside a man name Jeremy introduce his self to us , he told us that he is going to be taking us around and showing us interesting things.

First thing we done was went to this school program area. Once we were inside we had to sit down and wait for some instructions.  Jeremy told us what we are going to do , we had to make a tapa. He introduce to us three different kind of tapas and what they are called. One tapa was from Fiji. In Fiji they call their tapa  Masi .On the tapa it had different designs like diamonds and flowers. Next tapa came from Tonga .In Tonga they call a tapa ngatu. On a Tongan tapa they had an eagle , flower and these little triangle patterns. Last but not least it was a Samoa tapa They call their tapa siapo. On a Samoa tapa it only had a flower , a really big nice one .

After Jeremy had talked about the three different type of tapa he showed us his tapa that he had made. On his tapa he had four squares , in the first square it had a picture of a tree and circles of how much people is in his family , in the second box it had a picture of his home , in the third square it had a picture of  something  he is interested in like rugby  and for the last square he had a picture of something from his culture. When he finish showing us we had to do one ourselves. We took like about  20 or 30 minutes to do our tapa, once we were all finish we had to go out to do the next thing.

We went to this area we Jeremy told us that a person had made a really long wall paper . On that wall paper it  had a picture of people from different cultures  . They didn't have the full episode because it was coming out next year. After we finish looking at the video , we went to look at this painting that had sound effects from the ocean. Then it was time to go . We all said thank you and then Serenity and Iziah had say a thank you speech to Jeremy , then we all went outside to wait for the bus.

Athletics

Athletics Day

I woke up feeling pleasant and enthusiastic . Why you may ask well its because we had athletics . I quickly brushed my teeth and got ready for school.  Walking to school I was thinking in my head ‘’ do we have athletics’’? . Rain was pouring down I had a feeling that athletics will be cancelled.

Once we were at school we checked the time and it was only 8 o'clock. We went walking around getting prepared for athletics. My hands were shaking as if I was a bowl of jelly   , I felt nervous with butterflies flying around my stomach.

After morning tea the whole school came to the courts to get everything prepared for the day. The  sun was shining down , I felt like  I was  getting  cooked in a pan. Mr Burt talk to us and then we had to say our prayer for the day.

First thing we done was softball throw . I was glad that it wasn't shot put or discus.
Finally it was my turn . I threw  the ball and it went far . I was really happy because that was my first time throwing a ball really far.

After we finished throwing the ball we went to relays. First thing we had to do was sit in your colour houses. I was sitting in Matatua. ‘’On your marks , get set, go’’ Moe ran fast down and back up. We all done teamwork and manage to finish first.  We had a little break because we were all  really tired. After our break we had to go to the next  course.

We went to shot put and I had butterflies all around me . I was nervous because it  was my first time doing shot put. When it was my turn , my hands were shaking , my feet was moving and I was really nervous. I threw  it and it didn't really go far . I failed my first try , second try and my last try. But I still had next year to come.

The bell rang and I  was so happy . Sweat was coming down my face and I felt like I was put inside a hot volcano. We all came back to the courts to hear what we are going to do.
We all ate our lunch and went to go and sit under the shade.

To finish of athletics we went to do 100 meter race. I was really scared but I still gave it a try . I had to race first with five other girls . My heart was beating really fast.’’ On your marks, get set ,go’’ . I ran as fast as I can . Wind was blowing on to my face as I was running. After we had our 75 meter race I was happy because I came first and Josephine came second . Our next race  I had to race all the 7 girls that came first and second . Mr burt yelled  out ‘’go’’ but I  wasn't ready I ran fast and ended up coming forth. For my last race I came third so I didn't really make it into the finals. After we finish having our races we came back to the court to head back to class and that's how we finished our day for athletics.

Tapa Designs

Tapa Designs
A tapa design comes from the pacific oceans. Many cultures use a tapa for special things like the Tongans , Samoa's and other many cultures. Some cultures make a tapa as a dress for some special things.

How to make a tapa design .Well to make a tapa design  we used brown paper bags instead of using white paper. Some of us done four squares and some just done one big design. Once we had finished looking up our pictures and drawing our patterns on to the brown bag we coloured it with a dark brown crayon ,a light brown crayon, a black crayon and a kind of golden yellow crayon. Once we finished colouring our tapa design we went to go and dye it .

We headed down to the dyeing table to dye our art work. The colour of the dye we used was the colour brown. We waited for the other three people to finish with the dye so that we can dye our work. We grabbed our tapa design and painted dye all over our art work once we finished we started to dab toilet paper on to our artwork to dry it. Once we finished we took a picture of it and it ended up looking like this.

Once we finished eating our lunch we had to go back to the entrance room. We were given a pencil and paper that has questions on it .We had to do what the questions say’s.

The first place we went to was the Maori room.We had to look for flex and then copy it on to the paper. We had to look around so we can choose which flex we are going to draw. Once I drew my picture on to the paper I went around taking photos of interesting things.

Once we finish looking around we had to go to this part were it said when we go out of the Maori room we had to wash our hands .All of us went to wash our hands because we were going to the pacific area.

We headed down to the pacific area  to look at different kind of designs . We look at all the different kind of culture"s , pattern and once we found which one we liked we had to draw it on the piece of paper.

After we finish looking at the pacific area we went to the entrance room and had lunch. We all spent a long time eating our lunch. When we finish eating our lunch we went to the front of the museum to take  some pictures of the trees and other different things.

At the end of our day we played handball.Me and some of the girls from class 2,3 and 4 . We waited for the bus to come and pick us up . After a couple of minutes we just figured out that one of the groups were missing. We played a little longer until the team had finally arrived. We left and headed back to school.

Kiwi Sport Netball

                     Kiwi Sport Netball

Hi my name is katalina and i’m going to be introducing a game called Netball.
Netball is a fun and fit game.Netball is played mostly everywhere. Netball is played on the court or inside a hall. Now i’m going to be talking about how we played netball.

For a couple of weeks we have been doing netball.  On our first listen with Marilyn we had to learn how to defend our self when the ball is coming our way .Tamaai and Tyli had to show us an example for us to understand what she’s telling us to do.After they showed us we had to do it our self but with a partner. Once we finished trying to defend the ball we had to go back and sit on the ground to wait for our next extractions .

our next extractions we had to do is go into groups in five to have a challenge to see who would finished first.
In each group we had to have five people to play the game . Right after we got our teams together we sat down to listen what we had to do.

We had to pass the ball to somebody who isn't beside you , we had to pass it to somebody across you, and then  you do it all over again but to the same person you pass it to in the first round . ‘’Three, two , one go ‘’ we had a great start none of us drop the ball . We  past it to the same person four times and sat down when we stop.  we finished first and sat  down before anybody else did. Then we had two more rounds which we came first for the two rounds.

Now i’m going to be talking about some skills she taught  us . The skills she taught us is how to defend your self , you have to try and get in front of them so you can get the ball to the other side. The other skill we learned is how to try and step the person that is try to defend you it went really well and kind of fun .

On the last week with Marilyn we had played a fun game of netball. Serenity had to say thank you to Marilyn for teaching us netball skills  for being a great coach . After we  said thank you we went back to class to finished of our work.
